ASX RELEASE
16 NOVEMBER 2009
APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN
MR BARRY CARBON (AM)
The Board of Bauxite Resources Ltd ("BRL") is extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Barry
Carbon as Non-Executive Chairman. The incumbent Chairman Mr Luke Atkins will hand over to Mr Carbon
immediately and Mr Atkins will step down from his current executive role to become a non-executive
director.
Mr Atkins commented as follows on the appointment of Mr Carbon:
"Mr Barry Carbon is an absolutely outstanding appointment as Non-Executive Chairman and I am very
pleased to hand over the Chair to Barry at this time in the company's development following BRL's maiden
shipment of bauxite.
Mr Carbon's qualifications and direct industry experience in the private sector include 5 years in the Alumina
industry and this combined with outstanding credentials in the WA environmental sector as the former and
longest standing Chairman and Chief Executive of the WA Environmental Protection Authority as well other
senior roles in both federal, state and overseas governments are a compelling combination that will make
him an invaluable addition to the BRL board. In particular he is highly regarded and internationally
respected in the sphere of balancing the merits of development of major projects with environmental and
sustainable development factors.
Mr Carbon has a long standing involvement with environmental issues in the Darling Range and Kemerton
Industrial Area and an intimate knowledge, understanding and experience of the approval mechanisms and
workings of the relevant government departments at both state and federal level. Mr Carbon's
qualifications and industry experience could not provide a better background for presiding over BRL's board
as its grows its planned 3MTPA Direct Shipping Ore business and in implementing BRL's Stage 2 Plans for an
Alumina Refinery in the South West of Western Australia.
The BRL board looks forward to working with Barry to deliver on BRL's Mission Statement to become a low
cost supplier of bauxite, alumina and aluminium to the global market."
Mr Carbon is a fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, has a Masters in
Agricultural Science, a Degree in Biochemistry and was previously the longest serving chair and CEO of the
Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority. He received a centenary medal for services to
government, and this year was presented the International Association of Impact Assessment award for
Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Carbon's experience includes Chief Executive of the Ministry for the Environment New Zealand
Director General-Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage; Director General-Queensland
Environment Protection Agency, including Parks and Wildlife; Executive Director, EPA, Commonwealth of
Australia; The Supervising Scientist, Alligator Rivers Region; Chairman and Commonwealth Representative,
National Environment Protection Council Committee and served on the Environmental Protection Authority
of Western Australia as Chairman from 1985 86 and as Chairman and Chief Executive from 1986-93.
On his appointment Mr Carbon commented as follows
"I have watched Bauxite Resources Ltd from its ASX listing some 2 years ago and have seen its extensive
tenement holding and its rapid development and achievements to date. I congratulate Managing Director
Dan Tenardi and his experienced management team for its maiden shipment of bauxite. The Darling Range
is the world's largest bauxite and alumina producing region in the world, producing around 18%, of the
world's alumina, is home to 4 alumina refineries with established mining and environmental practices
formulated over the past 40 years. Bauxite Resources is well placed to join this sector and I look forward to
working together with the Bauxite Resources board in implementing its business plans."
The Board of Directors of BRL would also like to take this opportunity to thank the founding director Mr
Luke Atkins for his commitment, dedication and achievements during his time in the role of executive
chairman, having successfully seen the company through from its initial incorporation, ASX listing,
exploration, mining and first shipment of ore. We look forward to, and value, his continued input as a non-
executive director.
