Quarterly Statement of Production, Development and Exploration
DECEMBER 2009

Premier

Production

Overburden removal was 34.5 per cent higher than the previous quarter, due to favourable weather conditions and increased allocation of equipment to
waste removal in line with reduced coal production requirements.

Coal production for the quarter was 690,000 tonnes, 14.0 per cent lower than for the previous quarter due to lower coal demand from Verve Energy as
a result of a plant upgrade at the Muja Power Station.

Development

There was no significant development activity during the quarter.

Exploration

There was no significant exploration activity during the quarter.
Curragh

Production

Overburden removal was 4.8 per cent lower than the previous quarter due to maintenance activities on Draglines 301, 302 and 303.

Coal production for the quarter was 2,296,000 tonnes (comprising 1,750,000 tonnes of metallurgical coal and 546,000 tonnes of steaming coal),
1.4 per cent lower than the previous quarter. Metallurgical coal production increased by 2.3 per cent compared to the September 2009 quarter.
Steaming coal production was 11.7 per cent lower than the previous quarter in line with contractual requirements.

Development

Approval to expand mine capacity from 6.5 up to 8.5 million metallurgical export tonnes per annum was granted by the Wesfarmers Limited Board on
10 November 2009.

The Blackwater Creek Diversion achieved practical completion on 10 December 2009.

Exploration

There was no significant exploration activity during the quarter.
Bengalla

Production

Wesfarmers' share of coal production for the quarter was 574,000 tonnes, 2.2 per cent lower than the previous quarter due to operating in a less
productive section of the mining sequence.

Development

Feasibility studies to determine the viability of increasing ROM production from 8.7 to 10.7 million tonnes per annum are continuing.

Exploration

There was no significant exploration activity during the quarter.
