2 MINS: Great Britain fullback Paul Loughlin misses a penalty goal attempt after the Australians are ruled offside 40 metres from their line.

11 MINS: Loughlin puts first points on the board for Great Britain with a penalty kick from 40 metres following a high tackle on hooker Kevin Beardmore by Phil Daley.

27 MINS: Great Britain are penalised for being offside just inside their own quarter. Michael O'Connor misses a difficult kick.

36 MINS: Australia are caught offside inside their own quarter but Loughlin misses the penalty kick attempt.

38 MINS: Great Britain skipper Ellery Hanley runs off a David Hulme pass, dummies past Peter Jackson and beats diving tackles by Peter Sterling and Bob Lindner to score in the corner. Conversion unsuccessful. Great Britain 6-0.

49 MINS: Sterling regathers his own mis-timed kick near the Great Britain line, passes to a rampaging Sam Backo who ploughs over for a doubtful looking try. O'Connor converts. 6-6.

54 MINS: O'Connor misses with a penalty attempt following a Garry Schofield illegality on winger Tony Currie.

58 MINS: Loughlin hooks a penalty attempt wide of the posts after Schofield is tripped in a race for the ball just inside the Australian quarter.

63 MINS: Concerted Australian attacking play pays off when Sterling holds up a pass for Jackson, who sprints through a huge gap to score. O'Connor converts. Australia 12-6.

67 MINS: A try to Great Britain half Andy Gregory is disallowed by referee Desplas because of a forward pass from Kevin Ward.

69 MINS: Wally Lewis steadies himself on the Great Britain quarter and pots a field goal giving Australia a 13-6 lead.

73 MINS: Lindner and Lewis combine in some slick passing to send Jackson over for his second try. O'Connor misses the conversion. Australia 17-6.
