FOUR thousand half-hours ago in the land of soaps and glory the Aussie drama Neighbours was born.

First seen on our tellies in 1985 on Channel Seven, station heavies didn't rate the Ramsay St mob and gave the show the heave after six months. Big mistake.

It was picked up by Channel 10, who added soap stud Jason Donovan and a frothy young lass called Kylie Minogue. A cult series set up house and 16 years on the bubble is yet to burst.

This Friday Neighbours airs its 4000th episode (that's 83 days of continuous viewing if you've watched them all). The milestone begins as the series did all those years ago ? on the eve of a wedding.

Meanwhile, over at Summer Bay, the young and the restless from Home & Away are planning their own special episode. The H&A gang celebrate their 14th year next Wednesday and will reminisce about the days of their lives with a bevy of familiar faces.

Former stars of the sunset beach series will land in the bay for a reunion. They include Frank (Alex Papps). You remember him, the bloke who married tomboy Bobby (Nicolle Dickson) after he left Roo (Justine Clark) at the altar, after he recovered from a serious car accident that left him in a coma at a general hospital and before he ran off to the States for a seachange.

Other heartbreakers high on the reunion hit list include Sophie (Rebekah Emmaloglou) and Carly (Sharyn Hodgson). They'll team up with resident prisoners (work with us, it was the only one left) Jade (Kate Garven), Josh (Daniel Collopy) and the hunky Beau (Noah Lawson) for the show.
