BLUE Heelers star John Wood has been nominated for his seventh consecutive Gold Logie award this year, but he holds out little hope he'll finally take it home.

Wood must battle last year's winner and third-time nominee, Georgie Parker, All Saints star Libby Tanner, talk-show host and second-time nominee Rove McManus and McLeod's Daughters star Lisa Chappell, to take out the award.

But asked yesterday whether this would finally be his year, Wood said frankly: ``I would doubt it very much. I've got to be honest, don't I?"

The nominees for this year's TV Week Logie Awards were announced in Melbourne yesterday.

While stalwarts Parker and Wood head the talent, the stars of Secret Life of Us, McLeod's Daughters and newcomers White Collar Blue and MDA, are making headway into the nominations.

Lisa Chappell's rise has been meteoric, gaining nominations for the Gold Logie and Most Popular Actress awards, after being named last year's Most Popular New Female Talent.

Her co-star Bridie Carter has also been nominated for the Most Popular Actress award, and both are up against last year's winner Libby Tanner, Parker and Secret Life of Us star Claudia Karvan.

McLeod's Daughters' Myles Pollard has been nominated for the Most Popular Actor award, together with Erik Thomson from All Saints, Wood, Samuel Johnson of the Secret Life of Us and Home and Away's Beau Brady.

Secret Life of Us has nominations for Most Popular New Male and Female Talent, Most Outstanding Actor and Actress and Most Popular Australian Program.

MDA and White Collar Blue are also represented in the Most Outstanding Actor, Actress and Drama Series categories.

Awards host Eddie McGuire said competition from international programs had lifted the quality of Australian television shows.

The 45th TV Week Logie Awards will be held at Melbourne's Crown Casino and telecast on the Nine Network on Sunday, May 11.
