Australian television stars get their moment in the spotlight this weekend when the 1999 TV Week Logie Awards are presented.

Hosted by comedian Andrew Denton, who is expected to inject the show with some much-needed pizzazz, the Logies pay tribute to Australia's favourite small-screen personalities.

Featuring categories determined by both the public and industry sources, the awards ceremony will be looking to shake off its ``re-run" image.

With the same names consistently popping up in categories, there's been few surprises to celebrate in recent years.

Pray this year is different.

In the prestigious Gold Logie category for most-popular personality, new nominee Belinda Emmett faces off against experienced campaigners Lisa McCune (looking to make it three years in a row), John Wood, Georgie Parker and Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

Emmett, McCune and Parker are also battling for the silver Logie as most-popular actress with Rebecca Gibney, while Wood takes on Colin Friels, Martin Sacks and Jesse Spencer for the most-popular actor silver Logie.

Dramas and soapies control the most-popular program category with Blue Heelers and Water Rats taking on All Saints and Home and Away.

While the same names keep cropping up (Can Hey Hey It's Saturday really still be getting nominated as most-popular comedy program or 60 Minutes as an outstanding public affairs program?), there is some new talent on the scene hoping to make a mark.

This year marks the 41st Logies ceremony and while there are attempts to make it a little more prestigious, it's hard to overcome the feeling that we've been there before.

The awards ceremony is screening on WIN Television, Sunday, April 11 at 8.30pm.
