HIS dad is a rugby league immortal and now Lincoln Lewis will follow in his footsteps - or sort of.

Lewis, 19, son of Queensland footy great Wally Lewis, has scored a role on teen soap Home And Away, playing a rising football star and Summer Bay High's newest student.

Lewis had auditioned for two years to join the show before finally impressing the producers.

"I was in a furniture shop with my mum and aunty when [the producers] called to say I had got the job," he said. "I started screaming and running around.

"I am just so stoked to be here doing this and it still hasn't really sunk in yet."

The young actor said he was nervous on his first day on set.

"But everyone is so down-to-earth and friendly," he said, "not to mention talented. It is just so much fun coming in every day and I don't even think of it as work. I am just so honoured to be part of the show."

Lewis is a keen surfer but had to chop off his long, sun-bleached locks for the part. He plans to move from his temporary Bellevue Hill address to a pad in Dee Why.

The actor, who says he is looking forward to walking the red carpet at next year's Logie Awards, admits to feeling a bit homesick.

"I really miss my family," he said. "It has been really weird not being able to see them every day."

Lewis has appeared in the low-budget Australian film Voodoo Lagoon and teenage TV drama H2O - Just Add Water. Home And Away fans will get their first look at him on screen on Wednesday.
