THE `red carpet arrivals' at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles will be
screened live from 9.30am.
Richard Wilkins will present a red carpet highlights package from 7.30pm,
before Steve Martin steps into Billy Crystal's shoes.
This is Martin's first outing as host of the biggest show in Tinseltown.
Julia Roberts is a dead cert to win Best Actress for Erin Brockovich.
But has she run out of acceptance speeches after her recent golden run at
gong shows?
NEIGHBOURS
6.30pm, Ten
THE new pin-up in Ramsay St is Matt Hancock, who lands a job at Lou's pub.
Matt, by the way, is the character's name.
The 20-year-old actor who plays him is Stephen Hunt and this is his first
role on TV.
Matt, according to Network Ten, is `intelligent, but has trouble applying
himself to study'.
Apparently, `his parents despair about his future but are secretly proud of
his handsome looks and wit'.
They are indeed blessed.
By the way, Ten advises that Hunt has a pet cat called Elmo, which he adopted
from the RSPCA.
LIFE FORCE
6pm, ABC
THIS new series is aimed at teenagers and pre-teens.
It's set in a waterlogged Britain in 2025 and follows a group of youngsters
who battle evil government agents.
Global warming has led to `the drowning' and a totalitarian regime with
strict rules that ban `Climeys', or climate refugees, from entering Britain.
But our heroes take on the baddies, with the help of two genetically
engineered children with telepathic powers.
Life Force has a promising premise.
It's just a shame the first episode drops the viewer in the deep end with
minimal plot explanation.
And the crappy synthesiser muzak is relentless.
