What The Deaf Man Heard (Movie, 1997) on Ten at 8.30pm: Matthew Modine (Pacific Heights), Jerry O'Connell (from TV's Sliders) and Tom Skerritt (Picket Fences) star in this engrossing American telemovie about a young orphan who grows up in a small town in Georgia, where everybody is convinced that he cannot hear or speak.

Sammy Ayers continues the mute charade for 26 years, eventually using the secrets he has heard over the years to do a good deed.

Also stars James Earl Jones and Bernadette Peters.

Ricki Lake on Prime/Seven at 2pm: Ordinary people discuss their ordinary problems, like `You have naked pictures of me . . . the joke's over . . . give them back today.'

Home and Away on Prime/Seven at 7pm: Tempany Deckert (Selina) and Adam Willits (Steven) blew off Summer Bay last year but pop up in tonight's episode, which was shot in Britain.

Irene and Marilyn visit Selina in England, where she is recovering from a bout of malaria contracted during her African safari.

Healthy, Wealthy & Wise on Ten at 7.30pm: Lyn Talbot ventures aboard veteran entertainer Bobby Limb's Show Boat cabaret cruiser in Sydney.

Two Fat Ladies on ABC at 8pm: The always diplomatic Jennifer Paterson and Clarissa Dickson-Wright prepare cod cakes, bean fritters and other nibblies for a cocktail party at the Brazilian Embassy in London.
