AS the proud father of eight children, actor Jay Laga'aia is never lacking inspiration.

When he is not juggling roles on Home and Away, Play School and filming the third series of the ABC series Bed of Roses, Laga'aia is making music for his kids.

He has released his second children's album, I Can Play Anything.

"I collect them, stamps just weren't doing it for me," Laga'aia joked to The Word on having so many children.

"My songs have come from them. They are the ones that very much inspired me to write the album."

The actor's children range in age from 26 to one, but it is usually his five- and three-year-olds that are found running around the house with instruments and playing along to his songs.

"They all sing and play different instruments. I personally would like them to get a proper job, especially the one-year-old," Laga'aia said.

Inside his album cover, the actor-musician thanks his eight children individually as well as his wife of 20 years, Sandie.

"I love you very much and look forward to the next 20 years together. Hopefully some of the children would have moved out by then, so we can get some peace and quiet. Ha!," he wrote.

A proud Samoan who grew up in New Zealand, Laga'aia learned to sing in church and later toured New Zealand in a Christian band.

"Whether you're born in New Zealand or Polynesia, you're not allowed in the country unless you can sing a four-part harmony and play at least three instruments," Laga'aia joked.

He plays three instruments including the acoustic guitar, ukulele and harmonica on his latest album as well as sings.

While he maintains he still believes in God but is not a "Bible-basher" in his personal life, he will return to playing the Reverend Elijah Johnson on Home and Away at the end of this month.

In the meantime he said: "I'll see you through the square window".

I Can Play Anything is available through ABC music.
