Will McCune make history at Logies?

Model mum Elle Macpherson, popsters Savage Garden, American singing sensation Macy Gray and London-based comedienne Ruby Wax are among the big names expected at the annual bash.

Lisa McCune will vie for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Gold Logie despite fading from the screen earlier this year when her beloved character Maggie Doyle on Channel Seven's Blue Heelers was murdered.

Only three Australian entertainers have won more Gold Logies.

Graham Kennedy is the undisputed king of television with eight statuettes followed by Ray Martin with five and Bert Newton, four. However, no-one has won in four in a row.

McCune has been nominated for most popular personality alongside Blue Heelers' stalwart John Wood, All Saints' Georgie Parker, SeaChange star Sigrid Thornton and gardening guru Don Burke.

McCune, who is starring on the stage as Maria in The Sound Of Music, has also been nominated for a Silver Logie, or most popular actress award, as voted by the public.

Other nominees are Parker, Thornton and Murder Call's Lucy Bell.

However, Thornton is widely tipped to steal the spotlight away from McCune as she did at last year's People's Choice awards when she took out the top prize.

In the most popular actor stakes, the field is wide open with former Water Rats star Colin Friels, Martin Sacks from Blue Heelers, Stingers' Peter Phelps and Wood.

Australian television pioneer Bruce Gyngell will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to the industry.

The Logies will be hosted by Andrew Denton.
