FORMER Home and Away cutie Cameron Welsh gave The Word some acting tips during a recent phone interview.

The ex-Muswellbrook resident played nice guy Mitch McColl on the popular TV soap for 18 months. Mitch left the shores of Summer Bay recently to `visit a sick grandmother in New Zealand'.

As a resident Home and Away heart-throb, Welsh's character was often cast in `romantic' scenes.

`The art of a good screen kiss is something you just have to keep practising,' Welsh joked. `I guess it's not the worst thing in the world to get down pat.'

Perfect pashes were hampered by camera angles and timing.

`You have to be prepared for quite a few takes,' he said. `Oral hygiene is very important with those sort of scenes.'

And when it comes to tears, torture, it seems, is an effective method.

`Some actors pull out nose hairs,' he revealed.

Welsh said that although he had pulled up anchor in Summer Bay he had not broken ties with the show.

The 24-year-old now works on Home and Away spin-off Back to the Bay ? a behind-the-scenes program for the soap's millions of UK fans.

His rise to soapie stardom and life after Summer Bay is the focus of this week's Where Are They Now? in Saturday's Weekender magazine.
