A REPEAT drink-driver who crashed her car while drunk, injuring her young son, will give birth to her second child in jail.

Amanda Korver, 26, was jailed yesterday for almost three years after she collided head-on with another car at Mount Evelyn last December.

Korver's two-year-old son, a passenger, was seriously injured. Korver told police a hitch-hiker had been driving and had fled after the crash.

The County Court heard that Korver now pregnant with her second child had three prior convictions for exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit and three for speeding. She had a blood-alcohol reading of .147 shortly after the crash and was a disqualified driver.

Judge Joe Gullaci said: "In my view, for you to get behind the wheel of a car while unlicensed, disqualified and affected by alcohol as you were and put your son and other members of the community at risk in the way that you did puts your criminal conduct in the highest order of moral culpability.

"Those who are prepared to get behind the wheel of a car in a drunken state and conduct themselves as you did must be made aware that the courts will do something about that state of affairs in this society."

Korver was jailed for 35 months.
